This is the first initiative of its kind in the state. The scheme is being implemented with the support of Wonder Cement, Zurich Kotak General Insurance, SBI, and the SME Insurance Promotion Council. Under this scheme, around 1.3 lakh students studying in government schools in the Udaipur division will receive personal accident insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh.

According to officials from the Ministry of Education, the insurance will also cover cases where a student’s parent passes away due to an accident.

    Statewide Expansion Planned

Currently, the scheme has been launched exclusively for the Udaipur division, but officials have stated that it will soon be extended across Rajasthan, benefiting approximately 1 crore students.

    Objective: Ensuring Continuous Education

The primary goal of this scheme is to ensure that students do not have to drop out of school due to financial difficulties. Additionally, it aims to:

    • Prevent child labor
    • Promote financial inclusion through Digital India initiatives
    • Prevent misuse of insurance claim amounts
    • Encourage saving habits from an early age

  • Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar Coronated, Becomes Titular Head Of Rajasthan Royal Family

Amid the echoes of conches reverberating through the ancient corridors, mingling with mantras, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, clad in pristine white, walked towards the revered Gaddi (throne) of his ancestors.

In a ceremony steeped in tradition and grandeur, erstwhile member of Mewar royal family, Lakshyaraj Singh was enthroned on Wednesday in the Udaipur City Palace.

Amid the echoes of conches reverberating through the ancient corridors, mingling with mantras, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, clad in pristine white, walked towards the revered Gaddi (throne) of his ancestors.

The Rai Angan, the oldest courtyard of the palace, stood as a silent witness to the grandeur unfolding before it where Kulguru Vagish Kumar Goswami led the sacred rituals.

A ceremonial yagya was performed in the courtyard offering prayers to deities and the past Maharanas to the heavens above.

As Lakshyaraj Singh knelt before the revered Shri Ekling Nathji, the deity of Mewar, a hush fell over the gathering. The weight of centuries-old unbroken lineage rested upon his shoulders. With a deep breath, he lifted a handful of marigold petals, offering them in reverence to the deity, just as his forefathers had done before him.

The grandeur of the event was matched by the distinguished presence of guests. Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanakvardhan Singh, Lakshyaraj’s father-in-law, stood proudly among the attendees. Renowned poet and actor Shailesh Lodha, his words usually reserved for the stage, watched in silence, visibly moved by the deep historical significance of the occasion.

The courtyards overflowed with royal well-wishers, dignitaries and cultural luminaries, all bearing witness to the passing of the torch.

The day, however, was not without its sombre undertones. The seat of power that Singh now occupied had been vacated by the passing of his father, Arvind Singh Mewar, on March 16, after a prolonged illness.

Just months before, in November 2024, a parallel coronation had taken place in Chittorgarh Fort. Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, Lakshyaraj’s cousin and a sitting BJP MLA, was declared the 77th Maharana of Mewar, igniting a bitter dispute over the rightful heir to the dynasty’s legacy.

The rift deepened when Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters were denied entry into the Udaipur City Palace, leading to violent clashes at the gates.

Ever since the passing of Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar in 1984, his descendants have fought over succession and control of palatial properties, temples and vast historical estates.

  • Fight Over Lemons Sparks Communal Tension In Udaipur, 6 Detained: Police

The incident took place in the Dhanmandi area of Udaipur late on Thursday evening.

A minor dispute spiralled into a communal clash in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, leaving a vegetable vendor seriously injured, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in the Dhanmandi area of Udaipur late on Thursday evening, they said, adding that six people have so far been detained.

Police said a verbal spat between two men over buying lemons at a vegetable stall near Teej Ka Chowk soon led to a an argument and within minutes, it turned into a communal clash.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal said a group of five to seven people allegedly attacked the vegetable vendor, Satveer (50), with a sharp weapon, leaving him with severe injuries on his face. Satveer was taken to the MB Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

The tensions escalated further when two roadside huts and vegetable carts were set on fire. Firefighters reached the scene and doused the flames.

Police teams from four nearby stations, led by the SP himself, arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. Extra forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain peace.

Markets in the area remained shut on Friday.

“Six people have been detained after scanning CCTV footage that captured the assailants carrying weapons. We are investigating all aspects of the incident and strict action will be taken,” the SP said.

Local traders observed a complete market bandh on Friday, shutting down shops at Dhanmandi and Teej Ka Chowk. They demanded immediate arrests and action against allegedly negligent police officials.

Later in the day, a meeting between the traders and the administration helped pacify the situation.

Municipal Commissioner Ramprakash and Additional District Magistrate (ADM), City, Vaar Singh assured the protesters of action on three of their key demands — arresting the accused, removing illegal vendors from the area and taking disciplinary action against errant officers.

Following this, the traders agreed to reopen their shops.
